Today, Tech Oversight California called on policymakers to double down on critical tech accountability bills set for consideration by policy committees this week, following CalMatters reporting that lobbying in California by Google and other Big Tech companies is surging:
“Big Tech’s playbook is clear: flood the zone with armies of lobbyists funded by basically unlimited coffers. In Google’s case, that meant spending nearly $12 million just last year – more than it spent in the last 20 years combined – to influence California’s legislative process and kill bills it didn’t like. Legislators in Sacramento should know they have public support and the wind at their backs and keep standing up against Big Tech influence campaigns to advance policies that protect and benefit Californians,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of The Tech Oversight Project.
